How to get rid of a refrigerator in Phoenix, AZ
Refrigerators are not allowed in Phoenix bulk trash. Either schedule the City's paid curbside appliance pickup (602-262-6251) or take it to a transfer station, where each residential customer can drop off one refrigerant appliance a year at no cost.
- Curbside bulk
- Not accepted (refrigerant appliances)
- Pickup
- Paid scheduled appliance pickup, 602-262-6251
- Drop-off
- 1 freon appliance free per year at transfer stations
Holiday blackout (checked Oct 21, 2026): the City's scheduler blocks Halloween (Oct 31) and the 7 days after it, and does the same for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Book around those dates.
Option 1: City pickup (Scheduled curbside appliance pickup (fee))
Refrigerators are excluded from regular bulk trash appointments. The City runs a separate paid appliance pickup instead.
Who can use it
- For City of Phoenix residential solid waste customers.
- Each household needs its own appointment. Do not combine piles from several households.
- Some HOAs and neighborhood groups have a community-wide bulk date. Check the City's community appointment list before booking.
How to book
- Call 602-262-6251 to schedule a curbside appliance pickup.
- Ask for the price when you call. The City says there is a fee but does not post the amount online.
Refrigerator rules
- Bulk trash does not accept large appliances that use refrigerants, such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.
- Use the City's separate scheduled appliance pickup or a transfer station instead.
Setting it out
- Empty the fridge and remove its doors, hinges, lids, glass shelves and latches (the City cites Arizona Revised Statutes 36-1651).
- Place it in front of the property just behind the sidewalk, or behind the curb if there is no sidewalk. Not in the alley or a garage or carport.
Fees and limits
- Curbside appliance pickup: fee charged, amount not published.
- Free alternative: one refrigerant appliance per year at a City transfer station (see drop-off).
