How to get rid of a refrigerator in Tulsa, OK

Tulsa collects refrigerators in its scheduled bulky waste pickup ($20 per 8 cubic yards since Oct. 1, 2026). The appliance must be empty, and you should set it apart from your other bulky items because appliances go on a separate truck.

Option 1: City pickup (Bulky Waste Pick Up (scheduled, fee per load))

Who can use it

  • City of Tulsa residential refuse customers. You need your City utility Customer ID number and Account number to schedule online.

How to book

  1. Schedule online, through the 311 phone system during regular business hours, or by emailing Tulsa311@cityoftulsa.org.
  2. Schedule at least three days before your pickup day. Pickup happens on your regular collection day, in the order requests are received.
  3. To cancel, call by noon the day before. Otherwise you are still charged.

Refrigerator rules

  • Large appliances such as refrigerators are accepted. Appliances must be empty.
  • Separate appliances, electronics and tires from other bulky waste: two different trucks collect them.

Setting it out

  • Have bulky waste at the curb by 5 a.m. on your scheduled day.
  • Keep electronics, appliances and tires separate from other bulky items; a different truck collects them.
  • Not under power lines or trees, not blocked by vehicles, not over water or gas meters or phone and cable boxes, and at least three feet from fences and carts.

Fees and limits

  • $20 per 8 cubic yards (since Oct. 1, 2026; it was $10), and $20 for each additional 8 cubic yards.
  • If your set-out has items that aren't accepted, you are still charged the scheduling fee and the items are not collected.
  • Smaller items (40 pounds or less, easy for one person) go out with regular trash in a bag with an orange or purple refuse sticker instead.

Option 2: Drop it off yourself

We did not find an official public drop-off site for this item. Ask a private hauler, or check the city's page listed under Sources.

Option 3: Donate or give it away

  • Habitat for Humanity's national guidance: appliances should be less than 10 years old, in good working order, with all parts. Check with your local ReStore first.
  • When you buy a new refrigerator, ask the retailer whether haul-away of the old unit is offered.

Donation rules are set by each charity and can change. Call before you load up.

What we could not confirm

  • The City's page does not say whether refrigerator doors must be removed or refrigerant recovered first.
  • We did not find an official City of Tulsa page listing a drop-off site for furniture, mattresses or appliances, so none is listed here.
  • An older City news release (Aug. 14, 2025, now archived) lists the fee as $10; the current Bulky Waste Pick Up page says $20 from Oct. 1, 2026.
