Option 1: City pickup (Appliance Recycling pickup)

Who can use it

  • Bulk Item Pick-up and Appliance Recycling are for Mesa Solid Waste customers; non-Mesa customers pay a higher rate. Residents in HOA or multi-unit communities may need to contact their property manager.
  • Any past-due account balance must be paid before you can schedule a pickup.

How to book

  1. Complete the online Appliance Recycling Request or call 480-644-6789. Staff call within 3 business days to schedule.

Refrigerator rules

  • Appliances are prohibited in Bulk Item Pick-up and go through Appliance Recycling.
  • The fridge must be empty, and you must remove all doors, hinges, lids, glass shelves and latches (Arizona Revised Statutes § 36-1651). If it is not empty, it won't be picked up and a trip fee is charged.
  • Under federal EPA rules, refrigerant must be recovered before final disposal.

Setting it out

  • Empty the fridge and remove all doors, hinges, lids, glass shelves and latches before the crew arrives.

Fees and limits

  • $19.00 per appliance plus an $11.00 Freon removal fee, billed on your Mesa utility bill (non-Mesa customers $28.42 plus $11.00). $19.00 trip charge if it is not out.

Option 2: Drop it off yourself

  • Household Hazardous Materials facility, 2412 N. Center St., Bldg. 2. Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Sunday to Tuesday and City holidays (including Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Nov 27, 2026). Free for Mesa residents who pay the Green & Clean fee; bring proof of Mesa residency.
  • You can also take it to the Salt River Landfill, which is independently owned and takes cash only.

Option 3: Donate or give it away

  • Habitat for Humanity's national guidance: appliances should be less than 10 years old, in good working order, with all parts. Check with your local ReStore first.

Donation rules are set by each charity and can change. Call before you load up.

What we could not confirm

  • The City's pages disagree on the daily appliance limit at the HHM facility: the Appliance Recycling page says 2 per day, the facility page says 3. Plan on 2.
  • The City lists bulk prices as "starting at" $31 per load and does not publish the full price scale. Ask when you book.
