Mattress rules

  • Mattresses, bed frames and box springs are listed as acceptable items.
  • With bed bug activity rising, the City asks whether items have had contact with bed bugs. If so, tape a sheet marked "BB" to each item. No extra charge.

Setting it out

  • Place items at the end of your driveway without blocking the sidewalk, after 6 p.m. the night before and by 6 a.m. on your pickup day.
  • A load is about 4 x 8 x 4 feet; up to 4 loads per scheduled pickup.
  • Furniture such as tables, chairs and couches needs no special preparation. Smaller items must be bundled, boxed or bagged; single items over 60 pounds may be ineligible.
  • If any item has had contact with bed bugs, tape a sheet marked "BB" to each item. There is no extra charge.
  • Not accepted in bulk pickup: appliances (including microwaves), construction and remodeling materials, hazardous waste, liquids and tires.

Fees and limits

  • Bulk Item Pick-up: starting at $31.00 per load for Mesa trash and recycling customers; starting at $39.59 per load for non-Mesa customers. $31.00 trip charge if items are not out, are mixed with prohibited items, or you cancel late.
  • Appliance Recycling pickup: $19.00 per appliance, plus an $11.00 Freon removal fee for appliances with refrigerant (non-Mesa customers $28.42 plus $11.00). Billed on your Mesa utility bill. $19.00 trip charge if items are not out.

Option 2: Drop it off yourself

We did not find an official public drop-off site for this item. Ask a private hauler, or check the city's page listed under Sources.

Option 3: Donate or give it away

  • Habitat ReStores do not take mattresses under Habitat's national guidance.

Donation rules are set by each charity and can change. Call before you load up.

What we could not confirm

  • We did not find a City drop-off site or a mattress recycling program for Mesa. Arizona has no Bye Bye Mattress state program.
  • The City lists bulk prices as "starting at" $31 per load and does not publish the full price scale. Ask when you book.
