How to get rid of a refrigerator in Omaha, NE

Omaha has no curbside appliance pickup, and River City Transfer does not take appliances under the City's bulky program. The City's only listed option is its free Spring and Fall Cleanup, where appliances are accepted at designated sites only.

City pickup: not available for refrigerators

Omaha does not collect refrigerators at the curb, and they are not part of the River City Transfer cost-share program.

Why

  • Freon and non-Freon appliances are no longer part of the City's bulky disposal program.
  • At Cleanup events, appliances are accepted at designated sites only.

Skip to your real options: drop it off, donate it, or have it hauled away (below).

Option 1: Drop it off yourself

  • Spring Cleanup (April and May) and Fall Cleanup (October): appliances at designated sites only. Check the City's Cleanup pages for that year's appliance site.

Option 2: Donate or give it away

  • Habitat for Humanity's national guidance: appliances should be less than 10 years old, in good working order, with all parts. Check with your local ReStore first.
  • When you buy a new refrigerator, ask the retailer whether haul-away of the old unit is offered.

Donation rules are set by each charity and can change. Call before you load up.

What we could not confirm

  • The City's pages do not name a year-round drop-off for refrigerators; they point to a third-party search tool (Earth911) and the Cleanup events.
  • 2027 Spring Cleanup dates and appliance sites were not yet posted.
  • 2027 Spring Cleanup dates and sites were not yet posted on the City's page.
