How to book

Couch rules

  • Furniture (couches, love seats, recliners) is a Bulky Load item.
  • One Bulky Load is about the size of two couches.

Setting it out

  • Put items at the curb on your scheduled collection day, on a flat area, not in the street, on the main street in front of the home. The City does not collect from alleys.
  • Keep items five feet from mailboxes, light poles, cars, signs, low limbs and utility poles or boxes.
  • Items set out before you schedule can bring administrative fines and civil penalties (Raleigh City Code Section 7).
  • One load is up to four cubic yards, or six feet long, three feet wide and four feet high.

Fees and limits

  • Bulky Load (furniture, mattresses, box springs): $35 per load since April 1, 2026, with no limit on loads.
  • Special Load (appliances, large exercise equipment, excess bags): $70 per load. Partial loads are charged as full loads.
  • E-waste: up to four items free per week, Mondays only.

Option 2: Drop it off yourself

Option 3: Donate or give it away

  • Habitat for Humanity's national guidance: furniture should be gently used or like new. Each ReStore sets its own rules, so check with yours first (ReStore locator).

Donation rules are set by each charity and can change. Call before you load up.
