Bulky Load ($35) and Special Load ($70) collection: the basics
Who can use it
- Residents who receive City curbside garbage collection. Not available to businesses or commercial entities.
How to book
- Call 919-996-3245. Give your name, property address, phone number and a description of the items; that determines whether it is a Bulky Load, Special Load or E-waste collection.
- To get a refund, cancel by 12 p.m. on the business day before the scheduled collection.
Setting items out
- Put items at the curb on your scheduled collection day, on a flat area, not in the street, on the main street in front of the home. The City does not collect from alleys.
- Keep items five feet from mailboxes, light poles, cars, signs, low limbs and utility poles or boxes.
- Items set out before you schedule can bring administrative fines and civil penalties (Raleigh City Code Section 7).
- One load is up to four cubic yards, or six feet long, three feet wide and four feet high.
Fees
- Bulky Load (furniture, mattresses, box springs): $35 per load since April 1, 2026, with no limit on loads.
- Special Load (appliances, large exercise equipment, excess bags): $70 per load. Partial loads are charged as full loads.
- E-waste: up to four items free per week, Mondays only.
Drop-off options
- The City says residents can also take items to a Wake County Solid Waste Management facility, or use a private hauler.
